About the Role
As an English Teacher at Morawa DHS, you will work as part of a dedicated secondary team and have the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to our school and wider community.
The Ideal Teacher
The successful applicant will ideally be culturally responsive and have knowledge of the Aboriginal Cultural Standards, have strong interpersonal skills, be able to form strong positive relationships with students, staff and parents and have experience teaching English to students from Year 7 to Year 12 or have the capacity to teach competently in this area. Applicants who have the ability to reflect on information about student performance and plan for improvement using evidence-based strategies are strongly encouraged to apply. Effective classroom management knowledge and skills (CMS) and having an understanding of and the capacity to utilise explicit high impact instructional strategies in their approach to teaching and learning is highly regarded. In addition, an understanding or experience in the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Framework will be highly regarded.
Our School
Morawa DHS is an Independent Public School with a student population of approximately 185 [2021], with approximately 40% Aboriginal students, providing a strong, sustainable education from Kindergarten to Year 12. This allows students to live and learn in a safe rural setting, with a stimulating and differentiated learning environment, encouraging all our students to be fully engaged and motivated to excel.
Students in Year 11 and Year 12 have a flexible senior school programme, with the school endeavouring to meet the needs of all students by employing a mixed mode of delivery. i.e. a combination of SIDE and face to face subjects and classes with Staff. Both Vocational Education and Training (VET) and Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) courses are offered. ATAR/General and Foundation English and Maths subjects are offered face to face.
The Location and Community
Morawa is 100km from the coast and one and a half hours away from the services and amenities of the City of Geraldton and is known as the heart of wildflowers.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements; and
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
