Nollamara Primary School (PS) is seeking to employ a Student Support Worker to support students, families and staff at our school.
A key component of this role will be to continue to develop and maintain supportive links between students, families, our school and other appropriate agencies in the community. Establishing a network of partnerships with other government and non-government providers, particularly with those offering assistance to families experiencing trauma, and with health issues and education services. Our families are from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and languages, and an ability to work with compassion, understanding and kindness is important in this role.
The school support worker will also participate and engage in school events including Coffee Connect, facilitate Breakfast Club as well as our community picnics, sports carnivals and manage the Helping Hands room.
Other roles will include working collaboratively with staff and the Students at Educational Risk (SAER) team to support teachers and students to manage wellbeing, provide strategies to manage emotions a well as overcoming trauma or hardship. The student support worker may also participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings and case conferences with the staff and with other agencies as appropriate, including supporting students and their families to access a variety of services and the provision of information and consultancy advice as required.
The Student Support Worker will be required to induct and support social worker students on placements from Curtin University as well as the University of Western Australia, also.

Our school places a high emphasis on student success, and values the educational, social, emotional and physical development of our students. Students at Nollamara PS are taught the skills necessary to meet the challenges of the future and are given opportunities to practice these through a variety of engaging learning experiences and targeted programs. This is done in collaboration with the school chaplain, AIEO, school psychologist, multicultural liaison officers, SAER team and education assistants. The student support worker would be an important part of this team, too.
We seek a student support worker who ideally possess excellent interpersonal skills, enabling them to work within a collaborative team environment and engage in whole school planning. Developing supportive links between the child, the family, our school as well as appropriate agencies in the community and establishes a network of partnerships with other government and non-government providers, particularly with those offering assistance to refugees and with health and education services
Suitable applicants should display their capacity to implement a differentiated, targeted curriculum to a diverse range of students, e.g. Aboriginal students, students with special needs and English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) students who may be in the Intensive English Centre.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work-related requirements (selection criteria):
- Good oral, written and interpersonal skills and experience in working autonomously, collaborating and liaising effectively at all levels.
- Skills and experience in identifying problems, resolving conflict and negotiating solutions, and ability to coordinate support for individuals or groups of EAL/D students experiencing difficulties.
- Skills and experience in keeping records and ability to develop and maintain a comprehensive record system that provides information for planned interventions and student programs.
- Awareness and sensitivity to differing cultural backgrounds of students and their family.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current department of education criminal record clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current working with children check
- Complete the department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by departmental policy
- Complete the department’s training in accountable and ethical decision-making within six months of appointment.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
