Sorrento Primary School (PS) is seeking enthusiastic School Officers to join their friendly team.
We currently have the following positions available
- (1) x - permanent full-time position
- (1) x – permanent part-time (0.2FTE) position
Both positions will commence in Term 1, 2023
As the School Officer you will be required to undertake a wide range of administrative and customer focused support services within a school context which utilises strong Information Technology (IT) skills using various Department of Education databases.
The role involves the use of a number of Microsoft and web base software packages. An understanding of Schools Information System (SIS), QKR, Schoolzine, Fault reporting and Routine Maintenance program (Programmed FM) would be advantageous. This position will be working closely with the Manager Corporate Services and the Facilities staff as you will be supporting the maintenance of the school and ensuring Work Health and Safety compliance.
The successful applicant will ideally have good interpersonal skills, excellent attention to detail, and a willingness to be flexible. Strong communication is highly regarded as you will be working with visitors and contractors working on the school site. The ability to maintain a calm and professional service are important as well as the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
Sorrento PS has a dedicated staff who strive for high standards in teaching and learning. Strong instructional leadership focuses on current best practice in education to support whole school approaches to learning across all areas, including literacy, numeracy and science. Staff continually improve their own professional knowledge and practice to ensure students are provided with a high-quality education.
Sorrento PS offers comprehensive specialist learning area programs that include music, physical education, visual arts, Indonesian, health, and a strong pastoral care program. We are dedicated to ensuring those who need additional help are supported. Our gifted and talented program provides academically rich learning experiences for students who excel. We also offer instrumental music tuition for Year 5 and Year 6 students who demonstrate a strong aptitude for music. The school has a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program for students from Year 4 to Year 6 and is well equipped with technology throughout the school.
Great schools are a shared responsibility, and we are fortunate at Sorrento Primary School to have a dynamic and vibrant school where there is strong community and parent involvement. Parents and the community are highly valued and are actively involved in supporting the school through fundraising, canteen and in classrooms. The P&C Association and School Board are very active and provide valued support and direction to the school.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Experience in providing effective administrative support with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Experience in financial processes and procedures, including the handling of debtors, creditors, reconciliations, and /or preparing financial returns.
- Ability in using computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and experience in the application of customer service principles and practices.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
