WA College Of Agriculture - Harvey (WACOA – Harvey) is seeking to appoint an energetic and motivated individual to fill the role of Deputy Principal and join their friendly team. The successful applicant will be a passionate educator, committed to making a difference in the lives of young people. Ideally you will have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, as well as the ability to work effectively as part of a committed and experienced team. The Deputy Principal works with a range of different staff across class, trades, farm and residence to ensure a coordinated delivery of services and programs across the College.
The successful applicant will provide educational leadership in the school and the community by helping develop and promote the school values, ethos and priorities, and encouraging staff, families, students and others to share ownership of the school’s vision and goals. The successful applicant will use effective change management strategies to assist the school community to develop and adopt opportunities for improved student outcomes.
The successful applicant will assist the Principal in leading staff in planning directed at improving school performance. They will play a key role in the daily management of staff and student wellbeing and have responsibility for managing timetables and student courses, and reporting student enrolments and outcomes to parents and external agencies. The Deputy Principal manages the College’s Registered Training Organisation status so an understanding of VET is highly desirable though not essential. The role also encompasses coordination of the College’s work experience program.
The College is a co-educational facility providing education and training to students in Years 10, 11 and 12. As a specialist Agricultural and related trades training school, students attend from across Western Australia with the majority boarding on site. Students apply to attend the College with a genuine interest in the curriculum offerings being the main desirable attribute. As a result, students are motivated and engaged in their learning. The College has excellent facilities and resources and is situated in a beautiful rural location.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
