Teachers and School Administrators employed at Newman Senior High School in 2023 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $17,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.

Newman Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a passionate, highly motivated, proactive, and innovative leader to continue to design, implement and add value to the Rise Up Program as part of the 2021 – 2023 BHP Pilbara Education Partnership.
This Partnership is the largest corporate and Government partnership undertaken in regional Western Australia. The partnership between the Department of Education and BHP has been in place since 2005. The purpose of the partnership is to enhance education services and improve education outcomes through a collective impact approach in Newman, Port Hedland, Onslow and surrounding areas within the Shire of East Pilbara and town of Port Hedland.
The Opportunity
The Program Coordinator – 'Rise Up'.
The Rise Up program is based on a whole-school framework focused on encouraging students to rise up to individual improvement; whether it be student attendance, academic achievement, taking on a leadership role, mentoring others, meeting a set goal, or community engagement.
Through an innovative approach, the program promotes and supports student achievement and wellbeing by providing all students across Years 7 to 12 the opportunity to celebrate success.
Students in Years 5 to 6 at the local primary schools will also have the opportunity to participate, supporting students to transition from primary to secondary school.
Desired outcomes of the program are;
- Increased student attendance and engagement in educational programs is achieved through the provision of coordinated key services to students, families and staff.
- Process for improving attendance and engagement are established and implemented.
- Effective strategies and procedures are in place to manage, monitor and improve attendance and engagement of students
- Program information is collected and analysed, key issues are identified and appropriate strategies are developed.
- Interagency collaboration is established and coordinated to meet the needs of students.
The successful applicant will ideally be self-directed and able to inspire and develop others to embed The Newman Way values of Respect, Responsibility, Care and Compassion. Individuals with a passion for building a positive, proactive school culture with a calm and safe environment are encouraged to consider this position.
In addition to developing your coordination skills, this position offers applicants the opportunity to facilitate co-design with the school community, build the capacity of others, work as key member of the Student Services team, and develop strong links with local business and community to provide opportunities for students. - High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
