Joseph Banks Secondary College (SC) are seeking to employ a future forward Vocational Education Teacher, with expertise in problem-based learning and highly effective interpersonal skills.
The successful applicant will ideally be a passionate and dedicated vocational educator, an innovative practitioner, highly motivated to work in a collaborative team environment. They will provide students with a purposeful and engaging learning experience to develop their skills, knowledge, understanding and appreciation of contemporary and industry linked learning opportunities.
The successful applicant should be able to display the ability to provide high quality teaching and learning programs to meet the needs of our students. You should have an excellent knowledge of vocational education, and the ability to teach students of varying ability levels across Year 10 – 12 in a highly engaging manner. The College delivers qualifications through auspice arrangements in a wide variety of learning areas, including Business, Community Services, Hospitality, Music, Science and Sport and Recreation. Strong knowledge and skills in the delivery of one or more Vocational Education courses is highly desirable. It would be advantageous for the successful applicant to hold a relevant Certificate as well as a Certificate IV Training and Assessment qualification.
The successful applicant will ideally be a collaborative teacher with the ability to work well in a team environment. They will provide students with a purposeful and engaging learning experiences to develop their understanding and appreciation of contemporary and industry linked learning opportunities. Applicants would ideally be a teacher who engages their students and challenge students to achieve their personal best through innovative learning opportunities, problem based or design based approaches to learning and who is able to teach students of varying ability levels, differentiating the curriculum, in a highly engaging manner.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment will be well regarded as well as a willingness to engage in professional learning and liaise with colleagues, parents, and external networks.
Joseph Banks SC, an Independent Public School, is located in the suburb of Banksia Grove, approximately 27 km from the Perth Central Business District (CBD). We currently accept students from Years 7-12. The vision for Joseph Banks SC is to create a vibrant culture of excellence, innovation, opportunity and success for students, staff, and the community. As a developing and growing College, we were successful in our application to become a STEM TDS school when the initiative was launched through the Department of Education in 2016. Our leadership in STEM has continued and the College has created partnerships with the CoRE Learning Foundation and the international P-Tech program in order to foster student pathways in this area. Joseph Banks Secondary College is the Northern Perth P-Tech specialising in Cybersecurity, offering students opportunities for tertiary pathways to both TAFE and University.
To further develop our STEM strategy, we look forward to opening the Western Australian Space Science Education Centre mid-2023.
The focus of our work at Joseph Banks is on quality teaching and provision of the widest range of opportunities for the young adults who attend our college. We are developing the school as a centre for best practice in teacher development and student achievement. Programs range from support initiatives through to extension and challenge for students who are academically talented, including a strong ATAR program. On completion of secondary school at Joseph Banks Secondary College students will have a clear well-defined pathway to employment, further training and/or education.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
