The School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) is seeking a culturally responsive and aware, enthusiastic, innovative and fully registered Psychologist.
SIDE’s Referral Program provides for students who have special circumstances that impact on school attendance/engagement. SIDE’s School Psychologists gather information from a number of sources to assess eligibility (the family, the student’s current school, and clinician/specialist) and are responsible for coordinating an educational program that meets the individual needs of each student.
The School Psychologist will work one on one with students and their families. In lower school, our vibrant team liaise closely with our partner schools to enable a smooth transition back to school or an alternative program once students are able. In Senior School, you will work closely with students to support them in their Year 11 and 12 educational programs and assist with their mental/emotional welfare.
The successful applicant will be able to work well individually and in a tight team environment. You will ideally possess well developed written and interpersonal communication skills and engage with interagency and cross sectoral partners to achieve desired outcomes. The complex role features case formulation and working with an interesting and diverse multicultural clientele.

SIDE has a main campus in Leederville and facilities at Canning College, Clarkson Community High School and Northlake Senior Campus. You may be required to work at anyone of these or future venues.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention.
- High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Department personnel and inter-agency partners across a variety of contexts.
- Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- hold or be eligible for provisional or general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
