About the Role
The successful applicant will be responsible for presenting our school grounds in a clean, attractive and tidy condition, making improvements to ensure a safe and clean school environment. In this role you will ideally possess a strong capacity to complete minor repairs and maintenance jobs in accordance with the department’s policies and guidelines.
In addition to maintaining and presenting the school grounds and gardens in a clean and tidy condition, you will provide a suitable growing environment for both soft and hard landscaping, including turf management. You will maintain tools and horticultural equipment in a serviceable condition. As a Gardener – Handyperson, you should provide advice and support to the Manager Corporate Services on school grounds maintenance.
To be successful in this role you will ideally possess knowledge of gardening methods and procedures, including the safe use and storage of gardening equipment, materials, and chemicals. You should be a hard-working team member, willing to undertake professional learning and willing to share your special skills. Ideally you will be reliable, have a proactive approach to tasks and a strong work ethic.
About the School
Jerdacuttup PS is a delightful school with a small but stable student population. The school, located on the infamous Rabbit Proof Fence, is only 27 km from Starvation Bay and the beautiful coastline of the South Coast, well known for its fishing and camping opportunities.
Approximately 150 km west of Esperance and 50 km from Ravensthorpe, most students within the school's catchment live on farms. The school is serviced by one bus run. The school has a stable, experienced, and professional staff which consists of a Principal, three teachers, one teacher assistant, gardener, cleaner, manager corporate services and a library officer.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
And complete the Department’s:
- Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
- Induction program within three months of commencement;
- Introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas;
- Training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
