The Role and our Branch
Financial Planning and Resourcing is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and capable Budget Officer in its Budget Management and Analysis branch.

In this position, you will be preparing, analysing and reviewing components of the Department’s internal budget. You will also contribute to maintaining the internal budget in the financial management system to ensure the Department operates within its approved expense limit.
You will work closely with departmental business areas to assist them in establishing and monitoring their budgets and provide them with specialised budgetary information and advice.
We are looking for people with strong interpersonal skills who enjoy working collaboratively with different teams across the Department. To succeed in this position, you will have (or be able to develop) strong data analysis skills when using Excel and other corporate reporting tools.

Your application will be assessed against the following Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated knowledge of accounting standards, government policy and current direction as it relates to financial management and reporting.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in budget management, financial reporting and financial modelling, including use of reporting and analysis tools to interrogate and analyse large volumes of data.
- Demonstrated sound written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills that including the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of individuals at all levels.
- Demonstrated sound analytical and conceptual skills, including the ability to interpret data and resolve issues.
- Demonstrated sound organisational skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and identify priorities

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete
- the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
