Ocean Reef Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic leader to join the leadership team as Head of Learning Area (HOLA) – Mathematics

The successful applicant will ideally possess exceptional interpersonal, organisational and management skills to complement their outstanding leadership capabilities.
As a key member of the schools leadership team, it is highly desirable that you will have had recent experience leading Mathematics in a similar context. The Mathematics HOLA will provide advice and guidance to the Principal with regard to organisational and operational changes to enhance achievement of targets set in the school’s Business Plan. The ability to analyse student performance data and use this in planning is critical.
In collaboration with the Principal and members of the administrative team, the HOLA - Mathematics should provide educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision and encouraging school staff, volunteers from the community and others to share ownership of the school’s vision and goals in the Mathematics learning area.
The successful applicant will ideally provide a leadership role across the school in developing and implementing a whole school approach to student learning in the Mathematics contexts. You will be responsible for the planning, actioning and reviewing of the various contexts delivered across the school, as well as developing strategies and learning programs to ensure engagement and improved learning outcomes for students. A thorough understanding of curriculums and pathways is highly regarded.
The successful applicant will ideally provide curriculum leadership to teachers and facilitate teaching and learning outcomes through effective performance management, modelling and promoting a culture of improvement. You should use effective change management strategies and lead the school community to accept and develop opportunities for improved service in Mathematics.
You should be expected to liaise with the Principal and Associate Principals of the school, other senior leaders and contribute to the development of the school plan through participative decision-making, including assisting in developing school policy and establishing and maintaining systems.
In this role you will ideally be responsible for the effective daily management of the Mathematics learning area in accordance with legislative and industrial policy and guidelines.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia.
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
