We are seeking to establish a pool for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023 school year.
Guildford Primary School (PS) is seeking an energetic and efficient Gardener-Handyperson to join their team. As our schools Gardener-Handyperson you will have a passion for the outdoors and enjoy working to provide a suitable growing environment for soft and hard landscaping.
In this role you will be responsible for maintaining and presenting our school grounds in a clean and tidy condition. We are seeking applicants with effective communication skills to maintain accurate gardening records and provide advice to the Manager Corporate Services on school grounds maintenance.
Guildford PS is a level 4A school located in the North Metropolitan Education Region. The location of the school, approximately 500 metres from the Railway Station and next to the Swan and Helena rivers, reflects the classic turn of the century pattern of an urban village. The School is highly valued as an integral part of the historic village of Guildford for its location, setting and design. The school is privileged to have ample playing area for students and for playing sport. The playing area includes two ovals, one for PP-Year 3 and the other for Years 4-6. Guildford PS was founded in 1833 and is the oldest continually operating government school in Western Australia.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Sound communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in maintaining grounds and gardens, including turf management.
- Experience in minor servicing of horticultural/gardening equipment and performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Knowledge of gardening methods and procedures, including the safe use and storage of gardening equipment, materials and chemicals.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
And complete the Department’s:
- Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- induction program within three months of commencement
- introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas
- training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a ten (10) day breach period to this selection process. (other than online option)
