Piara Waters Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative and organised School Psychologist with a passion for supporting the whole child to achieve to their potential.
Our School Psychologist will be responsible for delivering direct psychological services to identified clients and applying psychological skills and knowledge to improve mental health, learning and behavioural outcomes for students in collaboration with all stakeholders. You will also assist with the development and implementation of school-based support services and programs and operate as a member of a collaborative and coordinated foundation Student Wellbeing Team.
As the successful applicant, you will have highly developed capacity to provide specialist support to school staff in the areas of student behaviour, learning and mental health and well-being. The ability to collaborate with school administration to develop evidence-based whole school well-being initiatives is a requirement for this role.
You will also offer guidance on risk management and emergency and critical incident management as well as professional learning for staff and parents. Knowledge and experience in identifying, planning and supporting staff to address the needs of students at educational risk is required.
There is the potential for this FTE to increase to 0.4 during 2023.
Piara Waters SHS is situated in the beautifully landscaped suburb of Piara Waters, approximately 25kms south of Perth. The school is surrounded by luscious greenery and will form part of the vibrant, multicultural community of Piara Waters. The school will commence with Year 7 students in 2023, adding each year to its growing cohort, until it reaches Year 12 in 2028.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention.
- High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Department personnel and inter-agency partners across a variety of contexts.
- Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- hold or be eligible for provisional or general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
