South Bunbury Education Support Centre is a specialist setting which caters to the needs of students in Kindergarten to Year 6 who may have a range of diagnosed disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and intellectual disability. With a steady student population of approximately 65 students, the school offers individual support and attention in all areas of student development. Our school prides itself on offering a cohesive, caring team environment for its staff and students. Our school is co-located with South Bunbury Primary School. Students and staff from both schools on the South Bunbury campus participate in a variety of in-school activities and excursions, which provide numerous opportunities to learn from each other. Students are also supported to develop skills though activities and visits to locations within the local community.
Our school motto, “Learn, Grow, Belong” is an important foundation of everything we do at South Bunbury ESC. We seek to nurture curiosity, collaboration and a sense of responsibility towards others, enabling our staff and students to lead lives of agency, contribution and fulfilment. We have a firm belief that building a school around a child provides greater capacity to cater for students with unique learning and social needs. We focus on the whole child not just the academic-we seek to empower them to be independent and confident learners.
Our aim is to support each student to learn and grow into their full potential in their academic, physical and social development, in order to have active, positive participation in their community in the future. South Bunbury ESC is a proud Positive Behaviour Support school (PBS) that is team teach trained. We inspire joy in learning by providing highly engaging and motiving student-centred learning programs. Each student has individualised education program, which caters specifically to the needs of the individual child. The program is clearly linked with WA Curriculum and is aligned to evidence-based assessment such as the Communication Matrix, PLD Screening Tools, ABLES Assessment and Top Ten Maths. We also use On Entry for K-2 for longitudinal data analysis. South Bunbury ESC keeps abreast of evidence-based strategies and programs and utilises a range of these to deliver exemplary programs targeted at ensuring students achieve their potential.
