Karratha Senior High School (SHS) has a focus on improving all student outcomes. Our teachers are supported by their Head of Learning Area (HOLA) and should design and deliver high quality lessons following our whole school instructional model. The ability to demonstrate Classroom Management Strategies (CMS) low key skills to establish and maintain a positive and supportive learning environment for all learners is highly desirable. All Karratha SHS teachers participate in classroom observation practices, integrate technology, utilise data to guide their practice and actively case manage students to improve outcomes in achievement, attendance and engagement.
About the Role
The successful applicant should be motivated, possess the ability to teach secondary Music from Year 7 to 12 and should be knowledgeable of the Western Australian (WA) Curriculum. As a Music Teacher, you will ideally deliver a differentiated curriculum which meets the needs of all students and have an expectation that all students can reach their potential. You should be a Teacher who aspires for academic excellence and is committed to high quality teaching and learning.
You will ideally possess strong communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills which will be used to develop and promote the school’s moral purpose, values, and priorities across the whole school community.

The Location and Community
Karratha is an Aboriginal word meaning 'good country', and our city is one of the largest and fastest growing cities in the northwest. Nestled in Ngarluma Country, the city of Karratha is known as 'Munjaree' - the heart of the West Pilbara Coast - and its size and central location make it the ideal base for exploring the local environment and adventure destinations. Karratha is only a two hour flight or a 16 hour road trip from Perth.
Karratha is the gateway to the Dampier Archipelago’s 42 islands, with excellent fishing, snorkelling, whale watching and swimming opportunities all year round. We are a five-hour drive to more snorkelling, whale shark experiences and camping at Coral Bay and/or Exmouth’s Ningaloo Reef. Karratha is surrounded by the National Parks of Karijni, Millstream-Chichester and Murajuga showcasing many breathtaking gorges, waterholes and the world's most prolific and oldest sites of Aboriginal rock art. It's also one of the few locations in WA where you can witness the Staircase to the Moon.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements; and
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
