This is a sixteen (16) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 4, 2022.
Settlers Primary School (PS) is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Deputy Principal to join their friendly leadership team.
In collaboration with the Principal and other members of the administrative team, the Deputy Principal provides educational leadership in the school and community by developing and promoting the school vision, and encouraging school staff, parents, and community members to share ownership of the school’s vision and goals. The Deputy Principal contributes to the development and implementation of the school business plan through participative decision making, including the identification and implementation of business plan priorities, incorporating the development of policy, establishing, and maintaining operational systems and cost centre management. The Deputy Principal will contribute to the development of a high impact, low variation teaching and learning culture and build a culture of trust and collaboration within the staff and administration team of Settlers PS. The successful applicant will provide high care and high impact support for students in middle and upper primary phases.
High quality applications will ideally be committed to the use of Explicit Instruction and the creation of common teaching methods, whilst also displaying a sound understanding of Positive Behaviour in Schools (PBS) processes. They will quickly build strong relationships with staff students and the wider community.
Settlers PS is an Independent Public School located 46 km south of Perth, in the fast-growing suburb of Baldivis in Western Australia. In 2022 there are 680 students enrolled from Kindergarten to year 6. The school has a campus of five teaching blocks and well-maintained grounds with shared community facilities. Teaching and learning environments reflect a positive and innovative attitude towards maximising learning opportunities. Student progress and achievement is monitored using authentic assessments and external validation. Behaviour is managed by a positive approach promoting responsibility and respect, built on a strong values-based foundation with a focus on well-being, independence, and resiliency.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
