Kent Street Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated and relational Program Coordinator – Student Services to join their progressive and committed team.
In collaboration with school leaders, the Program Coordinator – Student Services will provide effective leadership and coordination of student support staff and processes in the school, including practical and strategic responses to matters concerning student social and emotional wellbeing and mental health, as well as those concerned with student behaviour, participation and engagement.
You will have a leading role in the case management of students considered at educational risk, through your knowledge of effective intervention, monitoring and reporting processes and strategies. There is an associated responsibility to establish and manage administrative and operational systems within student support to ensure the effective operation of your portfolio within the school. Highly developed interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with staff, students, parents, and community organisations will be most advantageous for this role.
The successful applicant will ideally have proven and effective leadership qualities including the capacity to lead evidence-based improvements, inspire others, and build and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and external agencies. The implementation of intervention strategies and monitoring processes to support all students, but particularly those deemed high risk and/or managing mental health concerns will be required.
Kent Street SHS is proud to be an Independent Public School, located within 5 kilometres of the Perth CBD. We cater for a diverse clientele, many who travel great distances to engage in our Approved Specialist Programs or reside at the Rotary Residential College located onsite. We also work as part of the Curtin Education Community to actively engage our local primary schools in the Victoria Park area, with the ultimate aim that Kent Street SHS becomes their recognised and respected secondary school of choice.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
