About the Role
Derby DHS is an exciting place to work. New graduates are supported by a range of experienced Teachers and Program Coordinators. Whole school programs and processes are very important to us and make the induction into our school seamless. Derby is a part of the Kimberley Schools Project (KSP) with a focus on effective Explicit Instruction in teaching literacy and numeracy content using strategies such as “Warm Ups” or Daily Reviews.”
This role will suit someone who is relationship-focused, highly motivated, and passionate about creating stimulating learning experiences to ignite a desire to learn in students. You will have the opportunity to teach in a unique context where On Country learning and two-way lesson delivery with your Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) staff is highly encouraged.

The successful applicant will ideally have the capacity to provide engaging, relevant, and meaningful learning experiences. You should possess the ability to create positive and respectful relationships with students through a good sense of fun and adventure.
You will ideally possess a strong knowledge of all key elements of primary pedagogy and curriculum. You should be highly organised and have sound interpersonal skills. A high level of effective classroom management is desirable, and an understanding of the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) framework will be highly regarded.
We will also consider an internal secondment opportunity for permanent teachers in other locations within the Department of Education who would like to work at our school for up to three years and retain their substantive position. ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements; and
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
