Tjuntjuntjara Remote Community School (RCS) is seeking a dedicated and passionate Deputy Principal to join their friendly remote school.
The successful applicant will support the establishment of the school’s culture, vision, values, and future direction. You will ideally have outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to bring staff together and move in a united direction. You should be willing to assist with the implementation of whole school practices to meet the needs of our students and ensure an environment that promotes success.
The successful applicant will provide instructional leadership and coaching to help drive whole school literacy and numeracy practices; intentional and visible teaching; staff self-reflection and collaboration. Experience with Learning Support Team structures and strong skills in curriculum, school operations, behaviour education and student services/pastoral care is highly desirable.
Tjuntjuntjara RCS is located in the Tjuntjuntjara Community, home of the Spinifex people. The Tjuntjuntjara Community is in the Great Victoria Desert close to the border with South Australia, north of the Nullarbor Plain and 630 kilometres north-east of Kalgoorlie. It is considered to be one of the most remote communities in Australia. The community was established in 1988 when people moved from Coonana to Tjuntjuntjara to follow a traditional lifestyle and maintain cultural identity & values.
Currently Tjuntjuntjara has a population of approximately 160 to 200 residents, however this can swell or decline depending on Western Desert cultural cycles. It is an alcohol-free community where substance abuse is rare and there is little need for policing in the community. It is generally a quiet place where people feel safe. The main language spoken in Tjuntjuntjara is Pitjantjatjara followed by English.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work-related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
