About the Role
The ideal candidate will have the ability to develop engaging programs that help develop persistence and resilience in our students. To be effective in this role you will be able to plan and deliver effective teaching programs across Primary and Secondary classes in Health and Physical Education. You may also be required to provide Literacy Support to targeted students or to teach across other learning areas to meet the needs of the school.
As the Health and Physical Education Teacher, you will be responsible for the coordination and organisation of all school sporting events. Being well organised is highly desirable, as is having the capacity to plan curriculum including scope, sequencing and lesson design.
Students at Kalumburu RCS participate in the Bushrangers Program and the Health and Physical Education Teacher supports this. This involves On Country learning and the opportunity for students to develop skills in educational settings outside of the classroom. The successful candidate should have the capacity to contribute positively to this program.
The school places an emphasis on engaging students through camps and excursions. Some activities that students participate in include Kimberley Cup – a weeklong sporting carnival in Broome, Bike Camps to Honeymoon Bay and Mitchell Falls as well as Bushrangers camps and excursions. The Health and Physical Education teacher will have an important role to play in the organisation of these extracurricular activities.
The successful candidate should have excellent behaviour management skills and ideally be trained in Classroom Management Strategies (CMS). In this role you will need to be able to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, and the community of Kalumburu. This means developing students’ social, emotional, and academic wellbeing and working with the community to develop and maintain genuine, productive relationships. Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), the Zones of Regulation program and Stronger Smarter philosophy is highly desirable. At Kalumburu RCS we implement PBS school-wide and have the four behaviour expectations of being Strong, Smart, Safe and Caring.
While experience working in remote communities is not essential, knowledge of the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework and a willingness to develop positive relationships with all stakeholders in Kalumburu is vital to ensuring positive outcomes for students. A commitment to positive approaches and maintaining our positive staff culture is essential, and a personal resilience will support your success in living in a very remote location.
In the first instance, only applicants with teaching qualifications will be considered. Where there are no suitable applicants with teaching qualifications, applicants without teaching qualifications may be considered.
