Woodvale Secondary College (SC) is seeking to appoint a highly motivated, organised and relational Program Coordinator – Head of Year to join their friendly and committed team.
The successful applicant should have a high level of interpersonal and management skills. The position involves a leading role in whole College student engagement in liaison with the relevant associate principals. The successful applicant will be responsible for several year groups - to be determined once the successful applicant has been appointed. Flexibility to lead other year groups could arise in the future.
To be successful, you will ideally be committed to making a difference in the lives of young people by promoting student wellbeing and self-efficacy through regular attendance and positive behaviour. This includes the commitment and desire to create and sustain a safe, student focused learning environment.
You will preferably possess excellent communication and public relations skills that allow you to build and maintain collaborative and respectful partnerships across the school and the wider community.
It is expected that the successful candidate will, over time, gain a full understanding of the character of the relevant cohorts, enabling them to provide targeted support and events relevant to the year groups.
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) has been implemented across the College over the last three years, and the Program Coordinator – Head of Year will require the knowledge, expertise and experience to lead in this area. In addition, an understanding of pedagogical strategies to improve student engagement in the classroom, using the College’s Teaching and Learning Framework, is highly desirable. The Program Coordinator– Head of Year, will work on behalf of at-risk students in cooperation with relevant teaching and support staff, to assist with and manage the development of individual plans.
In collaboration with members of the administrative team, the Program Coordinator – Head of Year provides educational leadership in the College and the community by developing and promoting the College vision, and encouraging staff, volunteers from the community and others to share ownership of the College’s vision and goals. Using effective change management strategies, he or she leads the College community to accept and develop opportunities for improved service in the relevant area of responsibility. A key aspect of the role is to facilitate workforce effectiveness, both as a leader and as a trainer in College-wide practices. The Program Coordinator – Head of Year provides a role model for self-development to improve professional performance.
Woodvale SC is at the forefront of the use of technology in public schools. The successful applicant will have well developed Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills and the capacity to work collegially in a very busy team environment.

Woodvale SC is located some 20 kilometres north of the city of Perth and has approximately 1400 students from Years 7 to 12. Academically, Woodvale SC students perform at a level above the State average.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work-related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
