Jurien Bay District High School (DHS) is seeking to fill the newly created role of Deputy Principal - Student Services.
About the Role
This role will incorporate leading and managing a small Student Services team and the development and leadership of innovative and success driven school programs including but not limited to the areas of attendance, student voice, interagency support, and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).
Your role will also include responsibility for our partnership with the School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) to provide an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) pathway for Senior School students and specialist courses not available at Jurien Bay DHS.
As a member of the administration, you will join us in promoting and maintaining aspects of the school culture that encourage and support positive relationships and active engagement between students, staff, parents, and the wider community.
The successful applicant will be highly motivated, reflective, and enthusiastic and will ideally have successful well-developed leadership experience. We are looking for an applicant who possess excellent organisation skills, as well as highly developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to pay attention to detail, interpret data and work cooperatively and efficiently in a team environment.
The successful applicant may have a teaching load.
A deep knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum and best practice in teaching will allow the Deputy Principal to lead school improvement alongside teams of educators to ensure students make year-on-year progress.
The successful applicant should ideally be well-versed in knowing how children learn best, including those who may require extra support. Knowledge and experience in a secondary school is desirable to assist in the management of processes and resourcing to cater for the needs of all students.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia.
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
