Pegs Creek Primary School (PS) is seeking a dedicated, talented and innovative Program Coordinator of Health and Wellbeing to join our team in this newly developed role. This is an exciting opportunity to innovate and advocate for highly effective Health and Wellbeing programs and practises within our school, as part of our community.
About the Role
The successful applicant will provide effective leadership across the school in developing and implementing proactive and innovative practices to ensure we meet the needs of every student. We are seeking an applicant with highly effective communication, organisational and interpersonal skills who will develop and maintain positive partnerships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
As the Health and Wellbeing Program Coordinator, you would support our teaching team in relation to attendance, engagement, behaviour, social/emotional and physical wellbeing, educational engagement and Students at Educational Risk across the school. This role is an integral part of our school community and leadership team and the successful applicant should possess the ability to motivate and lead by example. Ideally you would provide support to teachers and leaders in the area of health and wellbeing and work in a collaborative team in order to meet all Schools Curriculum and Standards. To ensure high quality outcomes for students across all curriculum areas, the Health and Wellbeing Program Coordinator should build positive, professional working relationships with students, staff, parents and stakeholders to drive innovation and engagement at Pegs Creek Primary School. This role will also co-ordinate all Health and Wellbeing initiatives across the school as a part of the leadership team strategy.
A key component of your role will be working closely with our team in planning, monitoring, and reviewing the effectiveness of our health and wellbeing practices, in order to effectively prepare students for future success, especially in their transitions to high school. As a leader within our school, you will ideally have the ability to utilise your skills to encourage and support innovation in classroom practice, to analyse and use student performance data to inform and guide teaching and learning in social, emotional/physical health and wellbeing of students and inspire staff and parents in partnerships, to lead through example for our students. You will ensure effective management of processes are in place to support the wellbeing of staff and students and ensure the school meets all compliance requirements to deliver programs which are successful and engage students.

Peg’s Creek PS opened in 1978 and is centrally located in a well-established section of Karratha bounding the town centre. The school is one of the smallest in the town of Karratha with an average population around 236 students. As an Independent Public School we are committed to using the increased flexibilities to enhance our strategic direction and meet the specific educational needs of our students.
The school caters for students in Kindergarten to Year 6 and presents attractively in a natural setting, complimented with gum trees, gardens and grassed areas. Adjoining the school is the Peg’s Creek Oval which is a joint facility enjoyed by the school and community. All classrooms, learning areas, administration and library are networked providing on-line facilities. Each classroom is complimented with computer workstations and electronic whiteboards. Our Cossack Block provides an excellent specialist art classroom.
The school’s learning programs reflect the diversity of cultures, needs, and abilities of the children of Peg’s Creek. Specialist teacher support is provided for students in Art, Digital Technology, Yinjibarndi (LOTE Language) and Health & Physical Education. Whole school planning in Literacy, Numeracy and Social Emotional Learning focuses on explicit teaching using the Australian Curriculum. We have just commenced our Positive Behaviour Support journey and also have Clontarf operating on our site.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
