Edgewater Primary School (PS) are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Mainstream Education Assistant to join their friendly team.
The successful applicant will ideally possess strong people skills and the capacity to relate to staff, students, and parents. The successful applicant should also be highly collaborative and willing to share their skills and expertise.
We seek enthusiastic team members who show initiative in adapting tasks to meet student needs, who continually reflect on their practice and who are open to being observed and receiving feedback to guide their professional growth. You will contribute advice and expertise; collaborating with staff to support and monitor student progress.

As an Independent Public School in the City of Joondalup, we provide our students from Kindergarten to Year 6 with a caring environment and encouragement to strive for excellence in all aspects of their academic and personal development.
Edgewater has a focus on literacy and numeracy skills, supported by a strong pastoral care strategy. There are school-wide procedures for the early identification and support of students with learning difficulties, as well as those with behavioural, emotional, or social challenges.
Students have access to laptops and iPads to support the curriculum. A BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) programme is currently available to Year 4 students.
Specialist programmes are offered in Visual Art, Music, and Physical Education for students from Years 1-6, Science from Years 4-6 and in Languages (Mandarin) for students in Years 3-6. Other programmes offered include optional instrumental tuition in clarinet and classical guitar provided by the School of Instrumental Music along with PEAC (Primary Extension and Challenge) courses.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Sound oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with students, parents and teaching professionals.
- Sound interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
- Sound organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective educational programs to students.
- Ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course; and
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
Education Assistants working with Kindergarten students may be required to have, or be actively working towards, a Certificate lll in Education Support (or approved equivalent) in order to meet the educator-to-student ratio outlined in the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care.
Approved equivalent qualifications are published by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
