Broome Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dedicated professional to lead the Arts Learning Area as Head of Learning Area - Arts (HoLA - Arts.)

As the successful applicant, you will ideally have the highest level of interpersonal and leadership skills, to lead, empower and bring the best out in staff. Your primary role, as HoLA – Arts, will be to lead staff in the delivery of the Arts curriculum, in the genres of Music, Dance, Media, Drama and Visual Arts. You should facilitate excellent teaching and learning outcomes through effective performance management, modeling and promoting a culture of success. You will also work closely with all levels of the school community, including students, parents, the Principal and Deputy Principals of the school, other Heads of Department, and relevant specialist staff.
You will ideally have experience in leading the development and implementation of curriculum designed to meet the diverse needs of students; highly academic, indigenous and non-indigenous students, students at educational risk and those from a non-English speaking background. Furthermore, you will oversee the delivery of the WA curriculum at the school level and contribute at a town and district level to Arts development and promotion as part of the Broome Cluster of Independent Schools.
As a member of the school's dynamic and highly collaborative leadership group, your ability to be a part of and contribute to the school's collaborative culture, vision and future is important. You will ideally have the capacity to form constructive professional relationships within such a group with the aim of making and implementing decisions that improve the educational outcomes of all Broome SHS students.
You will ideally be a motivated, self-reflective, committed, and progressive classroom practitioner with effective teaching, learning, assessment and behaviour management practices and a very strong understanding of the Arts curriculum. Ideally, you will also be an excellent teacher in one or more of the Arts genres delivered at the school (Visual Arts expertise is preferred but not essential). You will ideally have highly developed collaborative skills and be a strong, effective communicator.
This is a permanent, full time position commencing as soon as possible this year. The HOLA role is allocated 0.4FTE, with up to 0.6FTE teaching component (Visual Arts for the remainder of 2022 including Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) Visual Arts).
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work-related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment; and
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
