Melville Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dynamic Teacher of Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS) to join their team.
The successful applicant should possess an excellent knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum and be able to teach students of varying ability levels across Years 7 to 12 in a highly engaging manner. Strong content knowledge, skills and expertise in Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) Politics and Law is highly desirable.
Ideally, the successful applicant will be a dynamic, dedicated and highly motivated educator with the ability to develop high quality teaching and learning programs to meet the needs of our students. Strong knowledge and skills in being able to lead and embed whole-school (and learning area specific) literacy strategies are valued, as is the ability to integrate innovative and engaging Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into classroom learning, and implement instructional strategies that develop analytical, inquiry and critical thinking skills.
The successful applicant will ideally be highly committed and collaborative and possess a strong ability to work effectively with our dedicated HaSS team. The successful applicant will actively participate in ongoing professional learning opportunities and continually reflect on their own teaching practice to enhance student engagement and to sustain a culture of high-quality teaching. They will work in collaboration with the Head of Learning Area and the HaSS team to lead strategies and identified initiatives in HaSS that continue to drive a culture of ongoing improvement in relation to student engagement, classroom teaching and student performance across Years 7 to 12.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements; and
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
