Appointment Pool
Armadale Education Support Centre (ESC) is seeking to establish a pool of Student Support Officers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2022 school year and up to the end of Term 3, 2023. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2022 school year, up to the end of Term 3, 2023.
Armadale ESC caters for over 60 secondary aged students from Years 7 to 12 which includes students with specific Intellectual Disabilities, Autism, Physical Disabilities and Mental Health Disabilities. All students have high educational needs and have been offered enrolment at the school via Disability Resourcing.
As the Student Support Officer, you will be involved in all aspects relating to student attendance, behaviour management and wellbeing. You will be required to work autonomously as well as have the ability to collaborate with others in a team environment. Your duties may include the creation and implementation of programs and projects in relation to the school wide Positive Behaviour Program, crisis management and response. This includes liaising with parents/guardians, students, staff and other relevant parties, providing support, advice and strategies to support at risk students. Knowledge and experience in supporting young people transitioning between school and adulthood would be desirable.
To be successful in this role you will ideally have practical experience working with young people as well as sound working knowledge of intervention programs to support students at risk. Current school programs include Sports, Drumbeat, Bike Rescue, Permaculture and Workplace Learning. Suitable applicants will contribute to the design and implementation of person-centred plans and documented plans in consultation with teachers, parents, School Psychologist and other relevant professionals, and maintain records regarding implementation of these plans in order to assess how educational programs fit in with the overall educational outcomes of the student. Suitable applicants will develop a strong supportive link between the student, the family, school and other government and non-government agencies. Suitable applicants will be actively involved in team meetings, case conferences, Full-Service School (HUB), National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) providers and other external agencies as required.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.
- Effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities within timelines.
- Good research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
- Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.
- Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment;
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course; and
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
