La Grange Remote Community School (RCS) is seeking a dedicated and passionate Primary School Deputy Principal to join their Leadership team.
The Primary Deputy Principal will work with the leadership team and school community to co-design the school's strategic plan. You will also lead and work with the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Coordinators to continue the implementation of the school's PBS program. You will work closely with the Program Coordinator - Teaching and Learning to implement highly effective teaching practice. The successful applicant will be required to lead the day-to-day organisation, behaviour improvement and staff development in the primary school and lead and implement the school’s Students at Educational Risk (SAER) strategic plan.
The successful applicant will ideally be a culturally responsive leader with an understanding of the Stronger Smarter Philosophy and Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework. We are seeking a highly motivated and engaging person, one who is focused on improved outcomes for students and aware of current, research-based practice in Early Childhood and Explicit and Direct instruction. You will ideally be a team player, who is able to communicate effectively, work to the school's strategic and operational plans, and build strong interpersonal relationships with staff, students and families. The ability to utilise and manage resources to enable ongoing improvement is desirable.
The successful applicant will be required to complete the Stronger Smarter online module and professional reading related to Explicit and Direct Instruction and PBS. This role will involve implementing a Stronger Smarter Approach to learning and community engagement.
La Grange RCS is a Stronger Smarter School implementing high expectations relationships and teaching practices to help improve the educational, wellbeing and leadership outcomes of students. La Grange RCS is the largest Remote Community School in the state and caters to the educational needs of all school aged children in the Bidyadanga community, with classes ranging from Pre-Kindergarten (0-3 years old) up to Year 12. In addition to a strong commitment to developing the literacy and numeracy skills of its students, La Grange RCS offers a diverse range of specialist programs across all year levels including music, art, physical education and information technology and a focus on cultural learning.
La Grange RCS is situated in the Bidyadanga Aboriginal Community in the Kimberley region, on Karajarri land, 180 km south of Broome. It is a desirable location and offers an opportunity to live and learn about Indigenous culture and provides a lifestyle of abundant outdoor and recreation activities as well as community connection.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work-related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
