Christmas Island District High School (DHS) is seeking to establish a pool of Teacher - Science for appointments to fixed term, full-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year.. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023.
To be suitable in this role, you would ideally possess excellent interpersonal skills and be relationship focused, able to provide engaging, relevant and meaningful learning. You will be innovative, knowledgeable and understand instructional curriculum whilst keeping in line with the latest developments within the Science Learning Area. Ideally, you will also be reflective in assessing the effectiveness of your teaching practice and able to cultivate a safe and accountable learning environment. The ability to teach ATAR level science is also highly desirable.
Christmas Island DHS, is located 360 km southwest of Java and 2 600 km northwest of Perth. We cater for over 200 students from Pre-primary to Year 12 on our main site and more than 20 Kindergarten students at the Tom Patterson Kindergarten Centre. Our school is well resourced which means class sizes are kept small and extra support is provided to classes in the areas of literacy, numeracy, information and communications technology, and pastoral care. Our commitment to valuing the home languages of the island means that students are offered the opportunity to learn either Mandarin or Bahasa Malay languages.
Vacancies may arise during the life of this pool that require specialist qualifications (for example vacancies within Early Childhood Education). Only applicants, in the pool, possessing the required qualifications will be considered for appointment in these circumstances.

- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
