Morley Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a Technologies Teacher (Aviation) committed to achieving the best educational outcomes for our students and continue the work of our award-winning Approved Specialist Aviation Program.
Morley SHS conducts one of only four Aviation Specialist programs in WA. Students are accepted into a four-year program in Year 7 and the course takes place in a specially designed Aviation Centre within the school. The program involves theoretical and flight simulation training and participation in the flying program, the aim of which is for students to achieve a solo flight as the pinnacle of their studies at the school. From Year 10, there are courses to study Aviation (ATAR or General) in Senior School as part of pathways towards a range of future careers in the Aviation Industry. Several students at Morley SHS have been successful in achieving the Minister for Education’s Aviation Award. Consequently, to continue the success of the program, applicants who possess a Commercial Pilot’s Licence and are suitably qualified as a Flight Instructor are strongly encouraged to apply.
The successful applicant should be an expert, passionate teacher with a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. You should be innovative and inclusive and able to cultivate a safe and accountable learning environment for students across Year 7 – 12 while demonstrating an excellent knowledge of Aviation Curricula. The successful applicant will ideally possess excellent interpersonal skills and be relationship-focused. Building positive relationships with students, staff and the community are important components of the role. You should have a strong evidence-based approach to teaching and be reflective in assessing the effectiveness of your teaching practice and able to demonstrate that your pedagogy has actively resulted in improved outcomes and progression for your students.
Ideally, the successful applicant will possess a strong understanding of Engineering, Physics, and the Aviation Industry in general as the school has plans to extend the breadth of opportunities for students within this program. In addition, Morley SHS has a sister school relationship with a school in Singapore and there are plans for international exchanges in future years. There may also be potential for the successful applicant to lead this Specialist Program, in addition to the flight qualifications listed, applicants with a Remote Pilot’s Licence (RePL) or a willingness to undertake this training in Drone operation are strongly encouraged to apply.

Students in Years 7 to 10 have access to engaging programs, including Department of Education approved specialist programs in our Aviation Academy and School of Screen and Media. All students in Years 7 to 9 also study a language and have the opportunity to participate in activities associated with our exchange partnerships with sister schools in Japan and China.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
