Port Kennedy Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of Deputy Principals for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2022 school year and up to the end of Term 3, 2023. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2022 school year, up to the end of Term 3, 2023.
Port Kennedy Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a hardworking and motivated Deputy Principal to join our friendly and supportive administration staff.
As Deputy Principal, you will work closely with the Principal and members of the executive team to provide educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision and facilitating workforce effectiveness. You will have a key leadership role in teaching and learning and will be responsible for delivering strategies and targets outlined in the focus areas within the school’s Business Plan. This will include further development and monitoring of our data informed teaching practices initiative, and instructional leadership program.
Suitable applicants should have strong interpersonal and communication skills. You should ideally be highly motivated, energetic and hard working as well as proactive in the support of students and staff and, ideally, have experience in engaging and motivating staff in new and innovative approaches. Previous experience and understanding of best practice in the Early Years would be desirable.
Port Kennedy PS opened in 1996 and caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. In 2017 we proudly became an Independent Public School and provide an exceptional service to our families and local community. We have a strong affiliation with the Royal Australian Navy, in particular the HMAS Stirling and offer a Defence Force Transition Aide for children with parents who are in the forces.
We have a passionate and experienced staff, with some being foundation staff members. Our staff are dedicated to providing a broad and inspiring curriculum that challenges and meets the learning needs of our students, with an emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy. We have a variety of specialty staff which enables the school to offer specialist programs that include Music, Physical Education and Science and LOTE.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
