Mount Magnet District High School (DHS) and Meekatharra District High School (DHS) are seeking to establish a pool of Deputy Principals for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year and up to the end of Term 4, 2023. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023 school year, up to the end of Term 4, 2023.
There is currently 1 x 12-month full-time vacancy at Mount Magnet District High School commencing Term 1 2023.

About the Role
The Deputy Principal will ideally provide leadership and support in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and student services. Suitable applicants will ideally show strong leadership in Trauma Informed Practise, PBS and behaviour and risk management planning and implementation. Suitable applicants may have a teaching load.
A deep knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum and best practice in teaching will allow the Deputy Principal to lead school improvement alongside teams of educators to ensure students make year-on-year progress.
Suitable applicants should ideally be well-versed in knowing how children learn best, including those who may require extra support. Knowledge and experience in leading student services is desirable to assist in the management of processes and resourcing to cater for the needs of all students.

Our Schools
Mount Magnet DHS is in the Midwest Education District and is situated 569 km north east of Perth and 340 km east of Geraldton. The school is a multicultural environment with a diverse range of students from Mount Magnet and the surrounding Midwest District. The school caters for around 88 students from Kindergarten to Year 12 and is guided by the expectations: We are Respectful, We are Responsible, We are Achievers.
Mount Magnet’s vision is to ensure our students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to achieve their full potential, become lifelong learners and to make positive contributions to society.
Meekatharra DHS is located approximately 800 km north east of Perth. The school draws from a diverse population of around 1,000 locally and 2,100 district-wide, representing Aboriginal communities, pastoral, mining, and related service industries. The town of Meekatharra is renowned for its beautiful day time vistas, hot summer temperatures and spectacular sunsets.
Meekatharra DHS caters for Kindergarten to Year 12 students and has a total enrolment of 180 students, the majority being primary aged students. There is a large Aboriginal population in the town. This results in over 90% of students at Meekatharra DHS coming from Aboriginal families.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work-related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
