Churchlands Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Program Coordinator – Head of Year. Churchlands SHS has a sub-school structure where for each two years of students we have a Level Five Associate Principal, two Heads of Year (i.e. one for each year) who manage a team including four House Coordinators (teachers released 0.2FTE for this role). The Head of Year and House Coordinators move with the students. The successful applicant will usually be allocated to the Year Group where the vacancy exists. This maybe any of the six year groups in the school.
The school has six Program Coordinator Heads of Year, two in each of Junior (Year 7 and 8), Middle (Year 9 and 10) and Senior (Year 11 and 12). The successful applicant would need the willingness, skills and abilities to allow them to move between sub schools.
The successful applicant will provide educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision, encouraging students, school staff, volunteers from the community and others to share ownership of the school's vision and goals. Using strong leadership and interpersonal skills along with effective change management strategies, you will lead the school community to manage and develop opportunities for improved service in the year group.
As the Program Coordinator, you will contribute to the development of the school Business plan through participative decision making, including assisting in developing policy and establishing and maintaining systems. You will work collaboratively with the second Program Coordinator to provide effective leadership across the sub school with a major focus on a specific year group. The Program Coordinators will have specific as well as shared responsibilities for each year group in a number of areas including curriculum, data analysis, academic monitoring, behaviour management, administrative and operational systems and pastoral care. The Program Coordinators report directly to the Associate Principal of the sub School they are appointed to.
Churchlands SHS is an Independent Public School which enjoys an outstanding reputation for its academic, sporting, community service and cultural achievements. The school’s Gifted and Talented Music Program is regarded internationally as one of excellence and it has outstanding facilities to support over 500 music students. The school also enjoys a reputation of excellence in sports, regularly holding both A Grade Swimming and Athletics championships. Churchlands SHS aims to continue a school community which encourages personal, social and environmental responsibilities.
The school uses SEQTA extensively as a management tool and, for many staff, used as a Learning Management System. Familiarity and the ability to use SEQTA to monitor and track student achievement, behaviour, attendance and learning needs would be seen as advantageous. Churchlands SHS maintains many other significant programs that staff can choose to be involved with. These include community service programs, after school sports, after school study classes, sporting and cultural tours. Churchlands SHS teaching staff embrace the directions of the school and enjoy being part of the educational journey of its students.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia.
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
