Alkimos PS is seeking innovative and enthusiastic teaching professionals with knowledge, skills and experience teaching across a broad range of year levels. A strong commitment to professional development, continuous improvement and collaboration in order to facilitate a best practice approach towards teaching and learning will be highly regarded.
Alkimos PS opened in 2016 and currently has an enrolment of 660 students, and this is expected to be similar in 2023. Our approaches to teaching and learning are that our staff members understand that the quality of relationships with students is the key. Teachers are able to adeptly engage families and the Alkimos school community, as crucial to our school's ongoing success is the extent to which this sense of belonging and connectedness can be created. Our staff strive to create a highly collaborative learning environment.
In developing exemplary teaching and learning approaches that have become the hallmark of Alkimos PS, teachers showcase their prowess in using cooperative learning strategies, integrating Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and incorporating principles associated with First Steps resources. Teachers will advocate for the importance of hands-on learning and will be adept in effective behaviour management processes. Experience with Talk4Writing, Protective Behaviours and Positive Behaviour Support (previously known as CMS) programmes will be highly regarded, but are not essential.
A commitment to implementing whole-school curriculum policies and programs, a capacity to be attuned to the individual needs of students, and an authentic ability to provide an inclusive, fair and safe classroom should be reflected in your application.
Underpinning our approaches is a clear recognition that students' learning outcomes and opportunities are maximised when robust non-academic strategies and beliefs are apparent. In implementing and upholding these ideals, our staff reflect an awareness of the types of services and support required by the students, families and the community of Alkimos and this northern coastal area in general.
Alkimos PS proudly hosts a Specialist Learning Program for students with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (SLP-ASD). It is expected that applicants will show enthusiasm and a capacity to cater for the needs of students within the SLP-ASD. Students within this program regularly move between their homeroom and mainstream class and suitable applicants will possess the inclusive principles and beliefs of this. Further, applicants with a passion for being considered for a teaching position within the SLP-ASD are strongly encouraged to apply and state their interest.
