Kelmscott Senior High School (SHS) is seeking an ideally experienced and enthusiastic German Language Teacher to join their team.
The successful applicant will ideally have an extensive knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum and a proven history of supporting and enhancing classroom practice across languages. The successful applicant will be required to teach Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) German as a second language and lower secondary German. As the successful applicant, you will lead ongoing improvements in pedagogy and support the development of the German languages program to achieve set targets in the Kelmscott SHS Business Plan.
The position requires a teacher who has excellent interpersonal skills and can foster positive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders including students, staff and community members. The successful applicant should be able to provide and coordinate extra-curricular opportunities that will enhance students’ German cultural experiences through establishing partnerships with other schools, travel to short-term stays in Germany and through supporting students with applications for overseas exchange programs.
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) will be implemented across the school over the next few years. The school has implemented a Teaching and Learning Framework, so a deep understanding of high impact teaching strategies along with the ability to coach and/or mentor staff to make these parts of their practice, is also desirable. An understanding of and commitment to the school’s Respect, Resiliency and Responsibility Charter are an expectation of the role.
We are seeking applicants with knowledge and skills to utilise systemic data such as Student Achievement Information System (SAIS), National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) and Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) to address individual student learning needs. Experience in teaching students from an English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) background and those requiring literacy and numeracy intervention in lower secondary are highly desirable.
Kelmscott SHS is a school of opportunity for students offering endorsed Specialist Programs in Agriculture, Music and Gifted and Talented (GAT) Secondary Selective Entrance Program. The school also offers a range of Kelmscott Extension Programs (KEP) in Mathematics, Science, English and Humanities and Social Sciences. We are only one of two schools to provide Gifted and Talented online to rural areas.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
