This is a six (6) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 3, 2022.
O'Connor Education Support Centre (ESC) is seeking to appoint a dedicated and committed Deputy Principal - Education Support to join their friendly team.
O’Connor ESC are seeking applicants who ideally possess excellent interpersonal skills and have proven success in building and maintaining strong professional relationships with staff, students, parents, networks and the wider school community.
Applicants should ideally be strong leaders, highly motivated and innovative, with strengths in the development of whole school curriculum and student engagement. They should also have a high level of organisational skills and be able to work with our team to incorporate strategic intent into operational plans which maximise student engagement, motivation and achievement, all within an education support background.
Successful applicants should have a sound understanding of managing students at educational risk and utilising resourcing effectively to provide opportunities for students to reach their potential. Proven ability to establish relationships and work with diverse groups will be vital.
Successful applicants will work as active members of the leadership team, leading in a number of key areas and focusing on effective classroom practice, the curriculum, data analysis, whole school approaches and building a successful culture across the school. In addition, the Deputy Principal will develop and establish important relationships with our parents who represent diverse communities of different cultural and language backgrounds, building our sense of community with inclusion a strong focus.
O'Connor ESC, located in the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, provides education opportunities for children in Kindergarten to Year 6. We create a caring and supportive environment that develops the academic, physical and social support for children with disabilities in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Kambalda,and Coolgardie.
We have many links with the wider community and the disability sector in Kalgoorlie and our School Council also has community and disability sector representatives.
Each student has an individualised education plan or individual transition plan outlining their priority objectives while at school, at home and in the community. These plans also form the basis for reporting to parents on student progress. Staff use data collection plans to address student needs across learning areas and monitor progress.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
Training
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
