About the role
Exmouth DHS is ideally looking for committed and passionate teachers to join our unique and highly successful team of professionals. Successful applicants must pssess a strong knowledge of highly effective teaching strategies specifically in explicit instruction (EI) and or a desire to work with the high-impact teaching team to develop their skills in explicit teaching. Successful applicants must display an ability to understand and use student and whole school performance data effectively to inform planning and differentiation across all year levels.
Successful applicants will possess an interpersonal skill set that enables them to build genuine relationships with students, staff, and parents. Display explicit instruction skills in teaching literacy and numeracy content whilst using such strategies as the “Warm-up” or “Daily Review” is preferred. Successful applicants must display strategies that support student engagement to enable positive student outcomes in and out of the classroom including the use of Engagement norms, Reflective behaviours, and Zones of Regulation. A commitment to ongoing professional growth by embracing new, evidence-informed teaching practices that lead to teacher improvement and superior student outcomes is desirable. Successful applicants must display interest or experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and EALD students coupled with effective use of purposeful and integrated use of digital technology to engage students and address digital technology student outcomes is preferred.
It is highly desirable the successful applicants will have experience and knowledge of programs such as Letters and Sounds, Talk for Writing and Seven Steps for Writing Success. Successful applicants will be able to display how their broad teaching knowledge will influence student outcomes including those of social disadvantage and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Our school
Exmouth DHS is a proudly Independent Public School with approximately 460 students from Kindergarten to Year 12. We are committed to providing the best possible education for the children of our community and are charged with preparing our students for a diverse range of futures. Successful applicants would join a team of 35 teaching staff and 25 support staff.
Exmouth is a coastal community situated in the remote North West of Western Australia. Located about 1250km north of Perth, 850km north of the large regional city of Geraldton and 550km south west of the Pilbara mining operations in Karratha, we are surrounded by Cape Range National Park and are the gateway to the unique Ningaloo Reef, recently listed as a World Heritage site. There is a permanent population of approximately 3,500 people which swells to thousands more during peak tourist periods. Due to the number of tourists visiting Exmouth the town has many amenities which would not normally be expected in a town of its size.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
