Clarkson Community High School (CHS) is seeking to appoint an energetic and enthusiastic Student Support Officer (SSO) who is dedicated to making a difference and to supporting students across the school context.
The SSO will work as an integral part of the Student Services Team and will have a clear focus on working closely with students at risk and in developing the social and emotional skills of students across the school. The successful applicant will have experience in restorative practices, supporting the case management of students at risk, and in working with disengaged students to restore attendance and increase engagement in school.
This successful applicant will play a key role in supporting the growth of a culture of high expectations. The SSO will lead lunch-time activities and work with the Student Services Team to coordinate reward programs. The successful applicant will utilise their interpersonal skills in working proactively to build positive relationships with students and will be involved in programs that support pro-social behaviour and skill development.
The role will require the successful applicant to follow administrative processes and engage with ICT systems and databases. Successful applicants must be able to work as a part of a dynamic team in an environment that requires flexible and solutions-focused approaches.
Clarkson CHS provides quality education and high care to approximately 320 students in Years 7 to 12. We have approximately 50 staff who are dedicated in helping students achieve their best and in ensuring that they make the most of the opportunities afforded them.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.
- Effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities within timelines.
- Good research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
- Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.
- Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
