The Curriculum Assessment and Strategic Policy Directorate is seeking to appoint a Principal Consultant - Primary Curriculum and Assessment with experience in curriculum and assessment design across the primary years of schooling.

The School Curriculum and Standards Division provides administrative and secretariat services for, and implements the decisions of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority). The Curriculum, Assessment and Strategic Policy Directorate within the Division provides quality curriculum, assessment and standards to enable all Western Australian students to become confident, creative learners and active, informed citizens who contribute positively to society.
The position reports to the Manager, Curriculum and Assessment and the following duties will be undertaken:
- develop and review curriculum and assessment support materials
- monitor, review and report on the implementation of curriculum initiatives, standards, projects and programs
- develop, implement and review moderation related processes for the primary years of schooling
- provide verbal and written curriculum related support to schools
- draft high-level advice, correspondence and briefings for the Minister, the Board, the Executive Director, school systems/sector and others as required
- organise, facilitate and conduct seminars, school visits and information sessions for staff from schools, regions, professional associations and school systems/sector as required.

- Demonstrated high-level knowledge of curriculum and assessment in the context of the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline, the Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines, The Early Year Learning Framework, performance monitoring and review.
- Demonstrated high-order conceptual and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated substantial project and program management skills, including the ability to implement processes to facilitate monitoring, reporting and successful delivery and objectives in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in undertaking consultation, stakeholder engagement, collaboration and negotiation.
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete
- the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
