Newton Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a dedicated and committed Teacher of Music and Drama to join their team.
The successful applicant will teach Music and Drama across a range of ability levels from Kindergarten to Year 6. Applicants who have sound classroom management, can develop rapport and engage students, who can differentiate curriculum to cater for individual student needs, and who can practise a range of teaching strategies are encouraged to apply.
Experience in establishing a school choir, showcasing students’ talents to the wider community, and managing the Instrumental Music School Service (IMSS) program are highly desirable. As a specialist Teacher of Music and Drama you will be an integral part of our teaching team.
The successful applicant will ideally have highly developed skills and experience in teaching Music as well as the Drama to maintain and enrich The Arts program. The successful applicant would ideally actively contribute and support a collaborative team approach to develop a culture of excellence in The Arts teaching and learning programs.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
