Fitzroy Valley District High School (DHS) is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Deputy Principal - Primary to join our Executive Leadership Team.
The successful applicant will plan strategically for positive outcomes utilising their vast knowledge of effectively leading teaching and learning. The successful applicant will have an ability to lead, manage and monitor the continuous school improvement cycle and drive the enhancement of high-quality teaching and learning in every classroom of the primary school. The successful applicant must be also able to effectively demonstrate an understanding of the PBS framework and whole school behaviour management processes.
A significant responsibility of the Deputy Principal - Primary is to continue to embed and maintain aspects of the school culture that promote positive relationships between students and staff, as well as engaging parents, caregivers and the wider community in the educational work of the school. A small teaching load will at times be inclusive of the role.
The town of Fitzroy Crossing is situated on the northern bank of the Fitzroy River, approximately 2700km from Perth and 400km east of Broome. The town has a population of approximately 1500 people. The main cultural groups in the Fitzroy Valley are the Bunuba, Gooniyandi, Walmajarri, Nyikina and Wangkatjungka peoples.
The Fitzroy Valley community is vibrant, innovative and culturally strong. It has a long history of indigenous achievement, enterprise and locally designed and implemented programs. Whilst the Fitzroy Valley Community faces many challenges it is forward focused and is a creative and dynamic location to live and work in.
Fitzroy Valley DHS enrols students from Kindergarten to year 12 with students coming from many communities in and around Fitzroy Crossing. Our school has predominantly Aboriginal students enrolled and has a strong focus on developing literacy and numeracy skills. Trauma informed practices are embedded into our school and we work in partnership with other agencies to raise awareness and understanding around best practice for supporting students and families.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work-related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g., Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia.
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
Training
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
