Gladys Newton School is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic School Officer to join their friendly ream.
The successful applicant will ideally contribute to a positive team environment and enjoy the challenges of working in a busy school office. We are looking for an applicant who is willing to make a difference, be flexible and solution focused, and be able to contribute to innovative and collaborative solutions to business requirements. In addition, strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain a calm and professional service are considered highly desirable.
The successful applicant will ideally have a friendly, positive, and caring attitude and possess the qualities to promote excellence within our school and to interact with parents and the wider community. The successful applicant should provide outstanding administrative support to the Principal Executive team including being called upon to take minutes and produce publications. Being able to develop proactive and creative ways to communicate with our culturally diverse community and engaging them with our school is a scope of work that will be required of this applicant.
Gladys Newton School is proud to be a centre of excellence, creating opportunities for success for students aged 4 -18 years with intellectual disabilities, Autism, and severe mental health issues. Our school is a leader in providing educational programs for students on the autism spectrum requiring a reduction in environmental stimuli enabling them to achieve academically as well as learn to self-regulate their anxiety and behaviour.
The school has safe, secure, and spacious grounds with well-established gardens and shady playground areas. We offer a wide range of amenities, not generally available in mainstream schools; custom designed playgrounds, a gymnasium, an indoor heated pool, a Health Club, a perceptual motor program room, a work skills room, a library/resource centre, a home economics area, an art/craft learning area, a bicycle track, a multi-sensory environment, the interactive Stephanie Alexander kitchen garden program and a vibrant inclusion program with the adjacent schools Warriapendi Primary and Majella Catholic Primary Schools.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Experience in providing effective administrative support with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Experience in financial processes and procedures, including the handling of debtors, creditors, reconciliations, and /or preparing financial returns.
- Ability in using computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and experience in the application of customer service principles and practices.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
