Byford Secondary College (SC) is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic and creative Dance teacher to join our collaborative and innovative Arts team.
The successful applicant will ideally have experience offering a vibrant Dance programme from Years 7 to 12. As we are a diverse school, applicants with an understanding of working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities, as well as students with a range of abilities and interests will be highly regarded.
We are looking for an applicant who is ideally a committed, professional and collaborative teacher. The successful applicant should have excellent interpersonal skills in order to develop effective relationships with students, staff, and parents. They will engage and collaborate with teachers and teaching teams to lead other staff in delivering an engaging and dynamic Dance curriculum.
We are seeking a person who is a team player, who will be able to promote Dance within the school and wider community. The successful applicant should also display the ability to collaborate with staff and students from other Arts contexts and/or learning areas. They should also have a strong commitment to professional development and continuous improvement to facilitate a best practice approach towards teaching and learning whilst providing a rich, evidence-base curriculum.
The Arts Learning area at Byford SC offers study in the five Arts contexts of Music, Visual Art, Dance, Drama and Media. Although a significant portion of the teaching load would be Dance, applicants would need to be willing to be able to demonstrate proven flexibility to teach other Arts subjects and/or within other learning areas. Building skills and understanding of how the Arts functions in our communities, enriches our lives and contributes to 21st century skill sets is a focus.
Our school offers a unique setting to many other schools with a mix of urban and rural students; although within the city we draw from large catchment area which creates a vibrant mix of students and staff. Being a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) school, we have a strong focus on Information Communication Technology (ICT) and developing Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) opportunities for the future. The successful applicant should embrace 21st century learning practices and participate in leading innovation and change to pedagogy. Located approximately 30 kilometres from the Perth CBD, our College currently caters for over 1500 Year 7 to 12 students including students with disabilities with our specialist inclusion facilities. Our school motto, Aspire to Excellence, clearly articulates our vision of being the secondary school of choice for the local community providing a comprehensive suite of subjects from Year 7 through 12. The College offers an academic extension program for students by selection, in partnership with the University of Western Australia. This ‘Aspire’ program provides these students with access to the university's staff and facilities to enhance their learning experience.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
