Appointment Pool
Hedland Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of dedicated, highly competent engaging and enthusiastic Health and Physical Education (HPE) teachers with excellent interpersonal skills to join our outstanding regional high school for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2022 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2023. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2022 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2023.
There are two positions currently available commencing asap:
- 1x - Nine (9) month fixed term, full-time position with possible extension and/or permanency
- 1x - Permanent full-time position

About the role
Suitable applicants will engage in reflective practice, have a strong evidence-based teaching philosophy and be committed to whole-school pedagogical approaches. They will have the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the school community by ensuring each student is on a pathway to success through consistent partnerships with students and their families. They will be confident in teaching across Years 7 to 10 and have a sound understanding of the West Australian (WA) Health and Physical Education Curriculum and Senior School HPE courses. Knowledge and the ability to use learning strategies that successfully engage students will be highly regarded.
In the first instance, only applicants with teaching qualifications will be considered. Where there are no suitable applicants with teaching qualifications, applicants without teaching qualifications may be considered. In this circumstance, a fixed term appointment as an untrained teacher for the 2022 school year will be offered.

Hedland SHS, located in the Pilbara, is an Independent Public School catering for students from Years 7 to 12. We will consider an internal secondment opportunity for permanent teachers in other locations within the Department of Education who would like to work at our school for up to three years and retain their substantive position. ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
