Safety Bay Senior High School (SBSHS) is seeking a dedicated and effective Deputy Principal to work in collaboration with our team.
In this role you will be required to lead, manage and build capacity in a large, dynamic and dedicated team focusing on ensuring every student is safe and supported, learning and participating, and healthy and connected. The Safety Bay Way is embedded in all aspects of school life thereby building a culture of high care and high performance. The role is primarily responsible for leading Student Services, however the successful applicant could undertake other roles and responsibilities within the school as negotiated with the Principal.
You will provide educational leadership in the school and community by developing and promoting the school vision and encouraging school staff, volunteers and others to share ownership of the school's vision and goals. The successful applicant will use effective change strategies to lead the school community to continually reflect on practices and data, to develop opportunities for improvement and engagement. To be successful in this role you should be a passionate educator, committed to making a difference in the lives of young people.
You will assist the Principal to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Department of Education policies and guidelines, and work collaboratively with the Executive Team in a number of areas including improving staff performance and supporting whole school operations. Your leadership and knowledge will be applied to policy development and review within the Student Services context as well as school operations. You should have a passion for Student Services and display excellent leadership, management and organisational skills. Your innovative and strategic approach will maximise student engagement in learning and teaching, and create a positive school culture through developing and implementing programs that focus on improving the health, well-being, attendance of students and promoting positive relationships between students and staff..
As Deputy Principal your high level of leadership will build capacity at all levels as you support and work collaboratively with staff ensuring the Professional Learning and Performance Management Strategies empower all staff to realise their potential whilst improving their accountability to the School’s Business Plan objectives. The successful applicant will ideally be a proven high-performer with successful leadership and management experience and strong professional knowledge. They should possess the capability and commitment required to build and sustain a culture of excellence in teaching and learning. Knowledge and experience in instructional leadership, coaching and working as part of a professional learning community is highly desirable.
The successful applicant should have the ability to think and plan strategically and to identify innovative and practical solutions to problems and challenges.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
