Meekathara District High School (DHS) are seeking two dedicated and flexible applicants and aspirant teachers to join their team as Deputy Principal.
There are two positions currently available commencing asap:
1 x Deputy Principal - Student Support and Pastoral Care
1 x Deputy Principal - K-6 Primary - English
About the Role
A Deputy Principal, in collaboration with the school’s executive and the senior leadership team, provides leadership in the school and community by promoting the school vision and facilitating workforce effectiveness. With a capacity to review school programs and processes, using data to make evidence-based decisions, the successful applicant will monitor student data and work collaboratively to enact leadership that supports active student engagement, academic achievement and teacher self-efficacy. The ability to implement flexible and adaptable change management processes, being sensitive to the needs of both staff and students, is highly desirable.
Deputy Principal - Student Support and Pastoral Care
The applicant should be able to display knowledge and experience in all or most of these responsibilities;
- Build positive relationships with students, their families and staff.
- Knowledge of Learning support coordinator role and disability funding.
- Nurture relationships with services in town
- Manage EAs and AIEOs
- Manage Student attendance
- Ability to complete fundamental behaviour assessments and assist teachers with IBSPs.
- Knowledge of PBS and ability to drive further enhancement with our community.
- Display cultural responsiveness and ability to further embed the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework within most aspects of schooling.
Deputy Principal - K-6 Primary - English
- Build positive relationships with students, their families and staff.
- Support the implementation and sustainability of the Mulitlit suite (Initialit, Minilit & Macqlit) as part of the Closing the Gap initiative.
- Capable of collaborating to further Literacy after the Multilit programs.
- Performance management of teachers to enhance learning through Explicit Direct Instruction
- Support and develop graduate teachers
- Knowledge of ICT systems in school
- Develop innovative ICT curriculum.
- Display cultural responsiveness and ability to further embed the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework within most aspects of schooling.

Meekatharra DHS and town is located in central Western Australia, with a number of students and staff members closely connected to and continuing language and culture. The school has a Wajarri Language program and is supported by Shooting Stars, EON Cooking & Gardening as well as the Stephen Michaels Foundation.
We work closely with The Meekatharra Shire, their excellent Youth program, Mission Australia, Yulella Aboriginal Corporation, Youth Focus and other services in town.
While having the option to explore the amazing countryside and waterholes during the weekend, Geraldton is just a drive away (as is Karajini) and staff may drive to Perth for a long weekend or school holidays. The town facilities include a swimming pool, gym, squash court, oval, Post Office, IGA, chemist, hospital, caravan park, museum, three pubs, three roadhouses, a golf club, rifle club and an airport with commercial flights run by Skipper’s Aviation. There is a junior football league starting this year. With most government housing on one street a closeknit community has developed.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work-related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.
