Joseph Banks Secondary College (SC) are seeking to employ a future forward Science Teacher, with expertise or interest in the Space Sciences!
The successful applicant will ideally be a passionate and dedicated educator, an innovative practitioner, and highly motivated to work in a collaborative team environment. You should provide students with a purposeful and engaging learning experience to develop their skills, knowledge, understandings related to Science and an appreciation of contemporary and industry linked learning opportunities in the Space Sciences fields.
Joseph Banks SC will open our Space Science Education Centre in 2023, with purpose built Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) facilities, the Space Science Centre will focus on the further engagement of students in learning and concepts linked to the Space Sciences and related industries.
The Space Science Education Centre includes a purpose-built facility that will provide students with access to technology that will provide a Mission Control experience and access to specialist technology and science facilities to undertake a diverse range of STEAM learning.
In establishing the Space Science Education Centre, the College is refining and expanding our innovative and authentic curriculum, through our partnerships and collaboration with industry, associations, tertiary institutions, and the wider education sector. Learning programs include a clear focus on ensuring pathways engage and attract students to the industry and provide successful transition into tertiary related fields and/or workforce and industry related fields.
The successful applicant should have high expectations, display a commitment to excellence, use a range of pedagogies and have the ability to establish and maintain a positive and engaging classroom-learning environment. You should have an ability to work as a collaborative team member and you will be committed to the development of strong professional learning communities focussed on student achievement and success.
As a Science teacher, you will participate as an integral member of the Science learning area and be responsible for supporting the collaborative approach to curriculum planning, providing learning programs to students suited to the needs of the school community and modelling exemplary teaching and learning strategies in your delivery. The successful applicant will ideally possess a repertoire of teaching strategies to engage students, ideally having knowledge of, and experience in, a range of instructional strategies and tactics.
The successful applicant will also ideally be a dedicated and highly motivated educator with excellent knowledge of the Senior School Western Australian Curriculum, be able to deliver content in an engaging manner and be a highly effective team member. You will ideally have experience in teaching senior secondary Science and possess strong skills and experience in teaching Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) Science courses. The College offers students a wide variety of ATAR, General and Vocational courses to study in the Sciences.
The successful applicant will ideally be a collaborative teacher with the ability to work well in a team environment. You will provide students with purposeful and engaging learning experiences to develop their understanding and appreciation of contemporary and industry linked learning opportunities. You will ideally be a teacher who engages their students and challenges students to achieve their personal best through innovative learning opportunities, problem based, or design-based approaches to learning, and who is able to teach students of varying ability levels, differentiating the curriculum, in a highly engaging manner.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment will be well regarded as well as a willingness to engage in professional learning and liaise with colleagues, parents and external networks. The ongoing establishment of the Space Science Education Centre is a collaborative initiative with industry and tertiary experts, enabling industry to play an active role in the learning and career development of their future workforce.
Joseph Banks SC is an Independent Public School in the suburb of Banksia Grove, approximately 40 kilometres from the Perth CBD. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;

- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements; and

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
