Warnbro Community High School (WCHS) is seeking a dedicated and highly competent Head of Learning Area (HOLA) – Mathematics to join our team. The successful applicant will ideally have excellent interpersonal skills and be committed to leading the Mathematics team to attain high levels of student engagement, progress and achievement.
As the HOLA Mathematics you will be focussed on making a positive difference to the lives of young people. You should have a firm belief that all students can reach their potential to achieve their highest educational outcomes through engagement with a curriculum using effective practice that is informed by evidence and research, underpinned by our whole school instructional framework. You should understand the role of explicit instruction approaches as the foundation for building knowledge and be able to apply them through curriculum design and practice in the classroom.
You should possess exemplary teaching and learning practices. You should have strong instructional leadership experience in Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) course development, and also possess an understanding of numeracy development skills. You will ideally have the ability to lead a learning culture with the capacity to coach and model instructional practices that develop your teams’ capacity as practitioners to improve student outcomes. As the Mathematics HOLA you will engage your team in robust moderation practices and draw on your professional network to ensure that your team is making consistent and comparable judgements about student achievement.
As a leader at WCHS you should understand the impact of trauma on learning and use this knowledge to build positive, productive relationships with students. You will use your knowledge of classroom management strategies to model and develop your teams’ capacity to create and maintain classrooms with predictable practices in place, that meets students at their point of need.
The suitable applicant will enable the implementation of the WCHS Business Plan 2022-2024 (draft available upon request), they should be committed to whole school approaches and initiatives, and have a strong evidence-based approach to leadership.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment; and
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
