Herne Hill Primary School (PS) is looking for an enthusiastic Gardener – Handyperson to help their school grow and flourish. We take pride in our school grounds and we are looking for applicants who love being in nature, to help maintain our lovely school grounds in the heart of the Swan Valley.
The Gardener – Handyperson will ideally take pride in their gardening work and will enjoy maintaining the school grounds in a clean and tidy state.
Requirements of the role include (but are not limited to):
- Maintenance of the school grounds
- Raking, weeding, whipper snipping, edging, reticulation pipes and general handyman duties as required. Raking is essential weekly due to trees and build-up.
- Maintain trees, grassed areas and four ovals.
- Works well independently but also in a team setting
- Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) requirements
- Multi-tasking is very important to ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner
About you:
- Good work ethic
- Being physically fit will be highly beneficial in this role.
- Time management skills is highly desirable

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
