Alkimos College is seeking to appoint a dedicated, highly competent and enthusiastic Digital Technologies teacher, with excellent interpersonal skills. The successful applicant will ideally be a passionate teacher of Digital Technologies, with a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. Alkimos College opened in 2020 with Year 7 only and will grow one-year group at a time (Years 7-9 in 2022). The successful applicant should therefore use professional knowledge, understanding and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant secondary Digital Technologies curriculum, from the early and middle adolescent phases of learning, through to senior secondary courses.
The successful applicant should be a dedicated and motivated educator who can provide high quality digital technologies teaching and learning programs that are as diverse and varied as the needs of our students. Applicants will ideally be well versed in the Western Australian Curriculum for Technologies and be able to develop and deliver courses to students of varying ability levels. As a teacher of Digital Technologies, you should feel confident in your skills and abilities to encourage student passion and appreciation for digital technologies, by relating student learning to real-world situations and industry. Recent experience in teaching Year 7-9 Digital Technologies is highly desirable in the context of this role. Specific knowledge and skills in the delivery of one or more of the following technologies is advantageous: understanding of computer hardware and software, robotics, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) skills, online platforms, engineering and design concepts, coding languages and networking. The capacity to teach one or more of the above listed technologies at an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) level is desirable as we progress into senior school in 2024.
To be successful in this role, you will ideally facilitate a learning experience that supports students to become confident, curious and critical users of digital and applied design technologies, as well as being creative producers of design solutions across a range of technology contexts. As a Digital Technology teacher, you should be able to value and appreciate that in an increasingly technological and complex world, students need to be able to critically analyse and creatively respond to design challenges and problems. The successful applicant will ideally be an enthusiastic adopter of a college wide instructional framework based on explicit teaching and instructional skills, strategies and tactics. They should be committed to personal and professional growth and will ideally embrace opportunities for collaboration. Commitment to the college health and well-being program (Anchor) and extra-curricular activities (Academies) will be desirable, as well as active promotion of the college motto, values and vision within the college and wider community.
Please note that as we are a growing school flexibility will be required in the first couple of years with the successful applicant required to teach Digital Technologies, as well as classes across additional learning area(s). Ability and interest in teaching other learning areas is therefore highly desirable. As there is currently no Head of Learning Area – Technologies, the position will be managed in 2022 by the HoLA – Physical Education.
About Us
Located in the northern suburb of Alkimos with sweeping ocean views, Alkimos College opened in 2020 with our foundation Year 7 cohort of 176 students, providing local intake area students with access to an exceptional secondary education in world-class learning facilities. Each year we will add an additional cohort, until we reach our full complement of Year 7 -12 in 2025.
Stage 1 buildings include administration, student services, library, gymnasium, staff fitness centre, food studios, cafeteria, technologies, general classrooms, specialist science laboratories, nature play area and the Specialised Autism Program classroom and Homeroom. Shared oval and community facilities with the City of Wanneroo are available via the adjacent Halesworth Park precinct.
Stage 2 (ready for 2024), will include a performing arts centre, dance studio, media studio, music studio, lecture theatre, additional student services and general classrooms.
The college places a high priority on professional learning, with a focus on a whole of college instructional framework as part of our ‘Alkimos Approach.’ A commitment to self-reflection and growth is vital. The college uses a coaching framework for all planning, review, performance development and classroom observation and feedback.
Staff are expected to embrace technology and innovation and enhance their skills with technology to improve work practices. Teaching staff are provided with a college iPad for use. The college provides students with a range of devices available to suit the learning required. This includes Surface Go laptops, iPads, Macs, PCs.
Alkimos College has high expectations of the student cohort to ensure all students are well prepared for their future, and have the opportunities to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to achieve their potential. This is complemented by a strong focus on student engagement and mental health and wellbeing, through our bespoke Anchor Program.
Alkimos College is only one of eight secondary schools chosen to have a Specialised Autism Learning Program. The college also has an academic extension pathway and from 2022 will have a Gifted and Talented Academic Selective Entrance Program.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY

TRAINING
