Baldivis Secondary College is seeking a highly organised Student Support Officer with effective time management skills to join their friendly team.
The successful applicant will form an integral part of the Student Services team, assisting in the day to day running of Student Services, ensuring an effective and responsive service for students. This includes supporting individuals and groups of students with behavioural, social and emotional needs on a daily basis. It will also involve assisting with the development and running of small group social and emotional learning and wellbeing programs.
The Student Support Officer will assist in the development and introduction of systems, intervention strategies and alternative programs that provide a responsive and effective support service for students, family members and staff. They will develop supportive links between the student, family, college staff and other appropriate agencies in the community. They will actively participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings and case conferences, as appropriate. As such, they should have exceptional interpersonal skills, possess a flexible and reliable approach and possess the ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships within a team environment and with all stakeholders.
The Student Support Officer will also assist the college Executive and Leadership Team in crisis response strategies, as required.
The successful applicant will ideally have a friendly, positive and caring attitude and possess the qualities to promote excellence within our college. They should also possess attention to detail, the ability to meet deadlines, and be able to work at a fast pace with competing demands.
Previous experience working with youth mental health and the delivery of resilience programs would be highly desirable, as would previous training in Youth Mental Health First Aid, Gatekeeper and Trauma Intervention.
Baldivis Secondary College, located 46km south of Perth, is a relatively new and vibrant learning community and the first public secondary school established in the area. The college opened in 2013 with a single year group of 220 Year 8 students and 32 staff. In the ensuing years our College population had risen to over 1,800 students and nearly 200 staff, making Baldivis Secondary College one of Western Australia's fastest growing and largest secondary schools.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.
- Effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing prioritises within timelines.
- Good research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
- Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.
- Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
